First game for our newly formed U16 team in the Hants County league and it was a tough first draw!

Tough start not helped my an accident on the M3 meaning most players were delayed so our warm up was condensed to 5 minutes!

The start was not what we hoped for, we knew our opponent were going to be tough, and their speed and transition through court flustered us and we lost our confidence to play our game and tried to match them for speed. This led to a lack of discipline on court, we threw balls away at warp speed when we did have it, and whilst we moved a lot it wasn't onto the ball. We also struggled to get the ball into our goal circle with strong and very tall defenders!

We regrouped at quarter time and talked about the need to stick to our plan and play a slower more controlled game. This served us well as we had a much stronger 2nd quarter where we almost held the quarter to a draw. We were more disciplined when we had the ball, taking our time to look for the options available and waiting for the right option to present without forcing the ball.

From that point out we started to build in confidence and have discipline on and off the ball ensuring we made the most of every opportunity. Whilst we still struggled to get through their defence and gain much ground, we were far more confident in playing the ball around until a solid option appeared. This served us well as we had a very solid 4th quarter which we won.

Whilst the score didn't go our way; it didn't represent the effort put out on court. As the coach for the day I could not be more proud of all the teams, they listened, adjusted and pushed on quarter by quarter getting stronger as the game went on! Every player gave 150% on court and fought for each other.

Well done to Immy and Lottie in their first every County games- I promise they wont all be that tough!
