Whilst it wasn't a win- it was a fantastic match- hard to believe its only the girls second game!
It was a slow start in the first quarter and we took a while to settle and remember our game plan of being in front of our players! Sadly with a taller/older side who were strong shooters this saw us go 4-1 down in the first quarter.
We regrouped at quarter time and had a chat about our strengths- our defensive pressure; and then our work on- the need to get in front and how everyone had to play their part by not asking for an overhead- and not passing overhead! We went into the second quarter with renewed focus and energy and what a fantastic quarter it was.
Dani came in at GK and worked so hard getting so many tips and turning over so much ball- we then managed to get our space and get the ball to our shooters- who stepped up and rewarded us with goals! This excellent work by all saw us draw the second quarter.
With just a couple of goals in it at half time we were full of energy and determined to get the ball and get the win! We talked about slowing down and taking a breath before releasing the ball as we had moments of doing all the hard work and then rocketing the ball away!
The second half just continued to get stronger and stronger with the girls finding their confidence- getting so many defensive tips on the ball and picking up balls it was great to watch.
The fourth quarter there were moments where we were tied at 8 all- but the last few minutes saw them sneak away with a pesky win with some excellent shooting.
Great job from all the girls and I am sure they will continue to go from strength to strength- and we have lots of great ideas of things to focus on in training.
Well done girls- proud of you all
